How to Mask Acrylic Sheets with Just a Scraper Tool

If you've ever been unsure how to apply paper masking to your acrylic sheets, you're not alone! The good news? You can achieve a smooth, clean mask using just a scraper tool — no fancy equipment needed.

At CMB, we have two simple methods we love for applying masking:

Method 1: Masking Face-Down

  1. Unroll your paper masking and lay it flat with the sticky side facing up.

  2. Carefully place your acrylic sheet face-down onto the masking (the side you want to mask).

  3. Use a craft knife or box cutter to trim the masking to fit your sheet.

  4. Flip the sheet over so the masking is now on top.

  5. Gently press and smooth out any air bubbles using your scraper tool, working from the center outward.

  6. Once smooth, flip the sheet back over and trim any remaining excess masking around the edges.

Method 2: Masking Face-Up

  • Start by cutting your paper masking to roughly the size of your acrylic sheet.

  • Line it up and carefully place it sticky-side down on the side you want to mask.

  • Use your scraper tool to press out any bubbles, working in even strokes.

  • Trim off any excess with a box cutter or craft knife for a clean finish.

Both methods work great — just choose the one that fits your workflow best!
