How to Mask Acrylic Sheets with Just a Scraper Tool
If you've ever been unsure how to apply paper masking to your acrylic sheets, you're not alone! The good news? You can achieve a smooth, clean mask using just a scraper tool — no fancy equipment needed.
At CMB, we have two simple methods we love for applying masking:
Method 1: Masking Face-Down
-
Unroll your paper masking and lay it flat with the sticky side facing up.
-
Carefully place your acrylic sheet face-down onto the masking (the side you want to mask).
-
Use a craft knife or box cutter to trim the masking to fit your sheet.
-
Flip the sheet over so the masking is now on top.
-
Gently press and smooth out any air bubbles using your scraper tool, working from the center outward.
-
Once smooth, flip the sheet back over and trim any remaining excess masking around the edges.
Method 2: Masking Face-Up
-
Start by cutting your paper masking to roughly the size of your acrylic sheet.
-
Line it up and carefully place it sticky-side down on the side you want to mask.
-
Use your scraper tool to press out any bubbles, working in even strokes.
-
Trim off any excess with a box cutter or craft knife for a clean finish.
Both methods work great — just choose the one that fits your workflow best!
