Why Do Acrylic Sheet Prices Stay the Same Across Different Thicknesses?
Ever browsed our site and wondered why 1/8" acrylic sheets and 1/16" acrylic sheets are priced so similarly? We get this question all the time! You’d think half the thickness = half the price, right? But the reality comes down to production costs—and we’re here to break it down for you.
It’s Not Just About Material
While thicker sheets do use more raw material, the cost to produce acrylic sheets doesn’t change much between thicknesses. That’s because production costs include things like:
✅ Labor – Paying the skilled team that makes your acrylic magic happen
✅ Facility Expenses – Rent, electricity, and keeping those massive machines running
✅ Production Time – The setup, processing, and cutting all take the same effort, no matter the thickness
Since these costs stay the same regardless of sheet thickness, the price won’t scale down just because the material is thinner.
So Why Doesn’t 1/16" Cost Half as Much as 1/8"?
It’s a super common assumption, but here’s the truth: Material cost is only part of the equation. The production process is where most of the pricing comes from, and that cost doesn’t change much based on thickness. So while thicker acrylic will naturally be more expensive, thinner acrylic isn’t automatically going to be way cheaper.
The Bottom Line
At the end of the day, pricing isn’t just about material—it’s about the full production process. Hopefully, this clears things up! If you’ve got more questions about acrylic, drop them in the comments or DM us. We love helping you understand the products you work with!
