Best Acrylic for Laser-Cut Earrings
Which thickness, which finish, and why cast acrylic matters, in one place.
Quick answer: The best acrylic for laser-cut earrings is cast acrylic in 1/8" (3mm), or 1/16" for larger statement styles you want to keep lightweight. Glitter, pearl, iridescent, marbled and printed pattern sheets are the most popular finishes because they add color and sparkle without any painting.
Earrings have two jobs: look great and feel light enough to wear all day. The right sheet makes both easy. Here is how to choose thickness, finish and type before you buy.
Thickness
What Thickness Is Best for Earrings?
1/16" (about 1.5mm)
Very lightweight. Best for large, dangly or layered statement earrings where weight adds up fast. Thin pieces can flex, so avoid long skinny shapes.
1/8" (3mm)
The most popular earring thickness. Sturdy enough to hold its shape, light enough to wear, and the widest choice of colors and finishes.
Tip: For a big earring, check the weight before committing. A 3" wide 1/8" piece feels very different from a 1" stud. Dropping to 1/16" or adding cutouts in the design keeps it comfortable.
Cast vs. extruded
Why Cast Acrylic Works Best
Cast acrylic cuts with a clean, polished edge and engraves a crisp frosted white. Extruded acrylic is cheaper but can melt more easily, leaving rougher edges on small, detailed shapes like earrings. Look for "Cast" in the product title. Cast acrylic can vary slightly in thickness from sheet to sheet, which is normal.

Finishes
The Most Popular Finishes for Earrings
Glitter
Sparkle cast into the sheet, so it shows on cut edges and won't rub off. Fine glitter, chunky flakes, glitter shapes and two-tone glitters.
Pearl & pearlescent
Soft, swirled shimmer that looks high-end in simple shapes like arches, ovals and teardrops. Pearl is usually more vibrant on one side.
Iridescent
Shifts color as the wearer moves. A favorite for statement and holiday styles.
Printed patterns
Our in-house printed designs (florals, animal print, holidays and more) give you a finished pattern with no painting or vinyl.
Matte & gloss solids
Clean, modern colors. Matte hides fingerprints and pairs well with a glossy or mirror layer.
Laser type
Will It Cut on My Laser?
Every sheet above cuts on a CO2 laser like a Glowforge. If you have a diode laser, start with our Diode Laser collection, which lists sheets customers have cut on diode machines, and cut a sample chip first. Settings for each material are on our recommended cut settings page.
Quick answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 1/8" acrylic too heavy for earrings?
Not for most styles. 1/8" is the most common earring thickness. For very large designs, switch to 1/16" or add cutouts to cut the weight.
What acrylic do earring makers use?
Most use 1/8" cast acrylic in glitter, pearl, iridescent, marbled or printed pattern finishes, plus mirror or matte accents for layered styles.
Can I test colors before buying full sheets?
Yes. Our sample bundles let you test colors and laser settings first.
