TIPS & TRICKS
★ Due to the cutting process, it's not uncommon to get a stubborn "fog" on your acrylic after cutting, this is from the gases released in the process. For CAST acrylic, you can clean this with a modest amount of rubbing alcohol for a crystal clean finish. However, acrylic can be weakened by any harsh or dehydrating chemicals and EXTRUDED will absolutely be compromised with these. We recommend using Novus's Plastic Clean and Shine on your acrylic, especially mirrors and other extruded acrylics. They also have a Fine Scratch Polish that works great on all acrylics for buffing out any minor imperfections that may have happened through the crafting process.
★ When engraving transparent acrylic, you can simply create the image as usual in your software and etch it on the front side of your acrylic. Engraving on transparent acrylic can create a range of effects from a lighter, subtle etch to a deeper engrave that has a heavier contrast on the edges as the light shines through it. This is most prominent with our fluorescents and clear. You can enhance the look of your engraving by doing a mirror engrave on the back and filling the etching in with acrylic paint.
★ When applying adhesive vinyl to the front of the sign (vinyl cutters only), cut your image as usual from your software and apply to your freshly cleaned and dry surface using transfer tape. If you are applying adhesive vinyl to the back of your sign for it to show through the acrylic, mirror your image in your software before cutting and might that not all adhesive backs are the same and some may appear muted.
★ When applying HTV to the front of the sign, mirror your image before cutting and apply using a hand iron or heat press at a lower temperature than recommended by the manufacturer (these will vary by type) and press with medium pressure in intervals of 20 seconds.
★ Acrylic paint may be used on these, the most common technique is the brushstrokes on the back, brushed on lightly. This does not need a sealer when used as a display sign, note that using acrylic paint on acrylic for a frequently used item like a keychain may result in scratching the paint. This can be avoided by applying a UV resin top coat.
Please note that due to the cutting process, sheet actual measurements may vary up to 1/4" depending on the type of acrylic and blades used to cut down the sheets.
