]]>When selecting the ideal acrylic sheets for your creative projects, the variety on offer can be overwhelming. Among the top contenders are Gemini Duets Two Tone Acrylic Sheets and CMB UV Printed Two Tone Acrylic Sheets, each with distinct characteristics and advantages. This comprehensive guide explores the differences between Gemini Duets and UV Printed acrylic sheets, providing insights to help you decide the best option for your design needs.
Two tone acrylic sheets stand out for their combination of two colors in one material, offering versatility and visual appeal across various applications. These sheets are popular in signage, decorative features, and projects where visual impact is crucial. The appeal lies in the dual-color design, which broadens the creative palette for designers and fabricators.
Gemini Duets Two Tone Acrylic Sheets excel in quality and are precision-engineered for projects demanding fine detail and durability. They're specifically crafted to meet the rigorous standards of engravers and designers alike.
However, it's worth noting that Gemini Duets' precision and durability come with a trade-off in customization. Unlike UV printed sheets, Gemini Duets cannot be as easily customized with specific designs or patterns.
UV Printed Two Tone Acrylic Sheets utilize UV printing technology to apply a secondary color or design atop the base sheet, allowing for vibrant finishes and extensive customizability.
Despite these advantages, UV Printed acrylic sheets may not match the durability of Gemini Duets. The printed surface can be susceptible to wear, fading, or damage over time, especially when exposed to harsh environmental conditions. However, the lifespan of UV Printed sheets can be significantly extended with the application of Frog Juice—a protective coating that shields the print from UV rays and physical abrasion. This makes UV Printed sheets more resilient, although they still might not reach the inherent durability of Gemini Duets.
The choice between Gemini Duets and UV Printed acrylic sheets hinges on the specific needs of your project. For engraving-centric projects requiring sharp detail and high durability, Gemini Duets are unparalleled. Meanwhile, UV Printed sheets shine in projects where customization and specific design patterns are paramount, with the added note that their longevity can be enhanced with protective coatings like Frog Juice.
Whether Gemini Duets Two Tone Acrylic Sheets or UV Printed Two Tone Acrylic Sheets are right for you depends on the demands of your project. If durability and precision are your top priorities, Gemini Duets offer an excellent solution. However, for those seeking unparalleled customization and are willing to use protective measures to ensure longevity, UV Printed sheets provide a compelling option. Here at CMB Acrylic we're committed to bringing you a range of products so you always have the right product for the right job, which is why you see both products offered. If you have questions about making sure you get the right product for the right job, we're always happy to help! Send us an email to hello@cmbacrylic.com!
]]>Introduction
When it comes to plastic materials that are durable and versatile, two names often come up: Plexiglass and acrylic. However, not everyone realizes that Plexiglass is actually a brand name for a type of acrylic. Let's explore what acrylic is, the story behind Plexiglass, and why understanding the difference matters.
What is Acrylic?
Acrylic is a transparent thermoplastic homopolymer known more formally as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Renowned for its strength, clarity, and versatility, acrylic serves as an excellent alternative to glass. It's about half the weight of glass but significantly more resistant to impact. Acrylic is also known for its weather-resistant qualities, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Plexiglass: The Brand Name
Plexiglass is a brand name that has become almost generic due to its widespread use and popularity. The name originated in the early 20th century, a creation by manufacturers looking for a catchy, marketable term for their acrylic sheets. Over time, "Plexiglass" has become a term many use interchangeably with acrylic, though it's technically a brand.
Differences Between Brand Name and Material
While Plexiglass refers to a specific brand of acrylic, there are numerous manufacturers of acrylic products. The quality of acrylic can vary depending on the manufacturer, but the basic properties of PMMA remain consistent. It's crucial for consumers to understand this distinction, especially when searching for plastic products or solutions that meet specific plastic requirements.
Advantages of Acrylic
Acrylic offers several advantages over traditional glass and other materials. Its durability makes it a safer option, as it doesn't shatter into sharp pieces when broken. Additionally, its versatility allows for a wide range of applications, from aquariums and hockey rinks to airplane windows and protective barriers. Its clarity and ability to be easily shaped and molded into various forms also make it a popular choice in the creative arts and design fields.
Applications of Acrylic and Plexiglass
The applications for acrylic and branded products like Plexiglass are nearly endless. In the medical field, acrylic is used in surgical devices and protective equipment. In construction, acrylic sheets are employed as windows, skylights, and architectural features. Retailers use acrylic for display cases, signage and even accessories while homeowners appreciate its use in furniture, photo frames, and decorative items.
Conclusion
Plexiglass, a pioneer brand in the world of acrylic, has become synonymous with quality acrylic products. However, understanding that Plexiglass is just one of many brands that produce quality acrylic sheets and plastic materials is important for making informed decisions about its use. Whether for a DIY project, a commercial application, or artistic endeavors, acrylic's remarkable properties offer a world of possibilities.

Which is why we prefer you build your own blanks and customize them to your hearts content! As busy business owners, we know you don't have time to email back and forth waiting to get quotes and finalize information, which is why our Build Your Blanks exist.
To order, you'll pick your shape first. We've got a nice range that is always expanding.
Next, you'll need to pick your acrylic color. Because pricing changes with the color, you won't see sizing options until you pick your acrylic color first. Once you've selected your acrylic color, you'll see a drop down menu to select your sizing.
It's important to note here that sizing is always going to be width (across the bottom) by length (top to bottom) of the image used.
It's also important to note sizing is not always going to be exact. Some products may scale differently within a few inches, and some may require that we scale proportional to the width, giving discrepancies in the overall length from the sizing selected. We will always base the design off of the WIDTH (first number).
If you desire that we cut to exact specs listed (within a .25" margin) or need something else, please make a note in the box labeled Other Instructions.
You can also use this to request other specifications for products we sell. For example, if you wanted a 12" X 15" oval instead of a 12" X 18" oval, you could order the 12" X 18" oval, and leave us a note in the Other Instructions Box to cut it as 12" X 15" instead.
If you would like us to add hanging holes, you can check the box for that and you will see additional specifications once selected. The general diameter most people select is 1/4" holes- this should account for ribbon/hanging rope, etc. If you are using standoffs, you'll want to select the hole size based on the size of the BOLT (not the standoff itself).
IF YOU ARE USING OUR CUSTOM SHAPE BLANK BUILDER-
1) Select Your Acrylic Color
2) Select the size of acrylic that your blank will fit on width AND lengthwise. For example, a 16" X 24" cut would fit on an 18" X 24" blank. But a 16" X 25" cut will only fit on a 24" X 36" blank.
3) If you would like to add hanging holes, select the checkbox. Hanging Holes Must be in your file.
4) Upload your file. This MUST be an AI file to minimize possible file discrepancies in Lightburn. It is your responsibility to verify the sizing is correct and will import into Lightburn correctly. We will not be held accountable for any sizing issues. If you want to be safe, you can leave the sizing in the notes section so we can cross reference.
5) This listing is for single link blanks only. That means your file must be one line start to finish. This is not for detailed or intricate cuts, names, multiple letters, etc. If you upload something that is not a single line cut you will be refunded minus a 15% processing fee.
]]>If you’re upgrading your acrylic sheets core color, make sure you’ve selected the 12” X 18” sheet size and UPGRADE core color on the first three drop downs (any thickness is available). Pictured below
You’ll need to make sure you select your print style if it is an available option. HERE are all the details on that.
Next, click the “Upgrade core color” checkbox. This will bring up a drop down menu for your upgrade options. Please make sure that if you select a 1/16” thickness, you only select from the 1/16” upgrade options, and similarly for the 1/4” thickness options. They are divided out towards the bottom of the core color options.
You can also select for us to add orabond, cut your sheets in half, or print on both sides. Please note that our clear acrylic are printed on “both” sides by default so there’s no need to choose this option for clear.
Click the box for the processing time acknowledgement and you’re ready to go!
Of course if you still have questions don’t hesitate to reach out!

Acrylic is a versatile and popular material known for its transparency, durability, and ease of use. Whether you're a DIY enthusiast, a crafter, or just someone curious about this fascinating material, this beginner's guide will provide you with essential information about acrylic, its types, laser safety, mirror acrylic, masking, and cleaning.
What is Acrylic? Acrylic, also known as PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate), is a synthetic polymer that comes in various forms. It's often used as a substitute for glass due to its transparency and impact resistance. Acrylic is available in different thicknesses and colors, making it a go-to material for a wide range of applications.
Cast vs. Extruded Acrylic: Cast Acrylic is made by pouring liquid acrylic into molds and allowing it to harden. It offers excellent optical clarity and is more scratch-resistant, but slightly more expensive than extruded acrylic. Extruded Acrylic is created by pushing acrylic through rollers, resulting in sheets with consistent thickness, It is less expensive than cast acrylic, but may have minor imperfections and lower optical clarity compared to cast acrylic. If you're working with clear acrylic and engraving, cast is the preferred option for a brighter white engrave. If you are not engraving and looking for something with a smoother laser cut edge, extruded acrylic is the best option. Another note to add: Mirror acrylic is a popular type of extruded acrylic that has a reflective, mirror-like surface, but it is always extruded.
Masking of Acrylic: Acrylic sheets often come with a protective masking layer to prevent scratches and damage during handling and processing. This masking can be either paper or plastic. Generally both are safe to laser cut, but plastic masked acrylic can sometimes "melt" into the acrylic while lasering and cause breakage on smaller or thinner cuts.
Now that we've covered the basics and you're ready to get cutting, check out our suggested beginner settings for cutting acrylic on your laser.
]]>Laser-cutting acrylic can be a delightful experience, resulting in clean lines and intricate designs that turn ordinary sheets into works of art. However, if you've ever encountered issues like acrylic not cutting through or pesky flashbacks, don't fret! We're here to help you troubleshoot these common laser-cutting woes!
Issue: Your laser seems to be dancing on the acrylic rather than slicing through it like a pro.
Solutions:
Focus First: Proper focus is crucial. Ensure your laser beam is precisely focused at the correct distance from the acrylic's surface. Incorrect focus can lead to incomplete cuts. This should be your first check!
Mirror Alignment: Misaligned mirrors can cause the laser beam to deviate from its path. Check your laser's mirrors and lens to ensure they are properly aligned.
Clean Machine: Dirty Fans, Mirrors, & Lenses are an often culprit in cutting issues- make sure you've checked them all!
Adjusting Your Settings: The next quickest solution is usually to adjust your power and speed. For acrylic that isn't cutting through all the way you should increase your power and decrease your speed in increments of about 5 until you find the sweet spot.
Double Pass: If the acrylic is super stubborn, you can try running the laser over the same path twice. This can help ensure a more complete cut, especially with thicker acrylic sheets.
Issue: You're noticing unsightly burns or flashback marks on your beautiful acrylic creations.
Solutions:
Focus First, Clean Machine, & Mirror Alignment Checks First!
Masking Material: If your material comes paper masked, leave it. If there's a plastic masking on it, most people prefer to remove the plastic and replace with a paper masking. You can also explore the dish soap method or paper towel method in lieu of masking.
Raised Material: Many people have success with raising the material off the bed of the laser using small scraps, magnets, honeycomb pins, etc. The goal here is to raise it in a few spots along the edges and down the middle so that the laser does not hit it, or hits it minimally, along any of the places it is raised. Here's a good video!
Material Quality: The quality of your acrylic sheets matters. Inferior or inconsistent material may be more prone to flashback issues. Invest in high-quality acrylic for better results. We suggest CMB Acrylic!
Issue: Your acrylic is warped meaning your focus will vary along the piece.
Solutions:
Cutting Table: Use a cutting table with a honeycomb or grid to support the acrylic evenly.
Magnets/Pins: Use magnets (if your laser allows), or honeycomb pins to hold down the edges of the material and create a more even surface area.
Engrave First: If doing a cut and engrave, engrave your acrylic first, then cut.
Remember, troubleshooting is part of the creative process. Don't be discouraged if it takes a little trial and error to achieve the perfect cuts and engravings on your acrylic sheets. Take your time to fine-tune your laser settings and maintenance routines.
By addressing these common laser-cutting woes, you can create gorgeous acrylic projects that are free from those pesky incomplete cuts and unwanted burns. Happy laser-cutting, and keep those creative juices flowing

Hey there, friends! If you're into crafting, DIY projects, or you have a small business selling handmade items, you've probably dealt with various materials, including acrylic. Acrylic is such a versatile material and can be used in a multitude of applications, from furniture to art pieces. But one question that comes up often, "Is acrylic safe for outdoor use in extreme cold weather?" Well, let's dive right in and unpack that topic!
First off, it's important to know what acrylic is. Acrylic is a synthetic polymer made from petrochemicals. Yeah, I know, that sounds like some high-level science stuff, but basically, it's a type of plastic. It's well-known for being lightweight, strong, and resistant to the elements—making it a go-to material for various indoor and outdoor applications.
Extreme cold weather can affect materials in different ways. Some materials contract, become brittle, or even break in cold temperatures. When we're talking about "extreme cold," we're often considering temperatures that can go well below freezing, sometimes hitting negative numbers on the Fahrenheit or Celsius scale.
Good news! Acrylic is pretty robust when it comes to dealing with cold weather. Here's why:
Low Thermal Conductivity: Acrylic doesn't conduct heat very well, which makes it more stable in varying temperatures.
Impact Resistance: Compared to glass and some other plastics, acrylic can withstand a lot more impact, making it less likely to shatter or crack in the cold.
Flexibility: Acrylic does have some flexibility, which allows it to contract and expand with temperature changes without significant damage.
Although acrylic is generally safe for outdoor use in cold weather, it does have its limits. If you're dealing with seriously extreme cold temperatures—think well below zero Fahrenheit or minus 20 Celsius—you may start to see some brittleness or weakening in the material.
Avoid Sudden Temperature Changes: Drastic changes can make acrylic more susceptible to cracking. So, if you have an item that's been indoors, give it some time to acclimate to the outdoor temperature before setting it outside.
Placement Matters: Be mindful of where you place acrylic items outdoors. Avoid areas where there could be strong impacts or where the item might fall and shatter.
Inspect Regularly: During extreme cold snaps, take some time to inspect your acrylic items for any signs of stress or wear.
Choose Thicker Sheets: If you're crafting something specifically for outdoor use in extreme cold, opt for thicker sheets of acrylic, as they'll generally be more robust.
In general, acrylic is a pretty tough cookie and can handle cold weather quite well. It may not be invincible in the harshest of conditions, but with a little care and preparation, it should serve you well.
If you're a part of the maker community and you're thinking of incorporating acrylic into your winter crafts or outdoor furniture, go for it! Just be smart about how you handle and place your items, especially when Jack Frost starts nipping at your nose.
Till next time, keep those creative juices flowing and stay warm!

With that said, there are some industry standard practices on a few materials.
First, Mirror Acrylic almost always has a gray backing (this is what makes it mirrored)! Most people consider the gray backing to be the back, and prefer to engrave mirror with the gray backing side up and the front (transparent/mirror side) down on the honeycomb tray.
For printed or patterned acrylic, the rule of thumb is usually that the front (pattern) side is face up in your laser and the masked back side is face down. This gets tricky If you have both sides printed. In that case you'll usually want to raise your acrylic off the bed of your tray.

]]>If you're looking for a way to add a sophisticated touch to your next project, consider using CMB satin matte acrylic sheets. As an acrylic sheet supplier, we offer a variety of matte finish options that are perfect for any project, including opaque colors and frosted acrylic sheets. Let's explore the benefits of using matte acrylic sheets and why they should be your go-to choice for your next project.
Reduced Glare- One of the most significant benefits of using matte acrylic sheets is that they reduce glare. Unlike glossy acrylic sheets, which reflect light, matte sheets have a low-glare finish that reduces reflections and eliminates the harsh glare that can cause eye strain. This makes them an excellent choice for displays, signs, and even picture frames.
Enhanced Color- Another advantage of using matte acrylic sheets is that they enhance the color of your project. Because they do not reflect light, the colors in your project will appear more vibrant and true-to-life. This makes them perfect for use in artwork, photography, and even in decorative accents such as shelving or room dividers.
Scratch-Resistant- Our matte acrylic sheets are also scratch-resistant, making them ideal for projects that will be handled frequently. They are less likely to scratch or scuff than other finishes, ensuring that your project will look as good as new for years to come.
Easy to Clean Maintaining the appearance of your project is easy with matte acrylic sheets. They are simple to clean with a soft, damp cloth, and require no special cleaning products or techniques. This makes them a practical choice for high-traffic areas such as offices or retail spaces.
Versatility- Matte acrylic sheets are versatile and can be used in a wide range of applications. They are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, making them perfect for everything from office partitions and retail displays to home decor and crafting projects.
Smudge Proof!- Matte acrylic sheets don't show fingerprints or oils on the hand like gloss finish sheets do, making them perfect for highly handled items.
With a treasure trove of matte finish options to choose from, we're sure you'll find the perfect matte acrylic sheets for any project here at CMB.
]]>Do you want to add color to your laser projects, but don't know where to start? Are you tired of paint filling your acrylic sheets, or just want more detailed prints? Read on to learn about sublimating acrylic and why it may be an option for you!
First things first, what is sublimation? At its core and for our purposes, its a chemical process that embeds ink into our substrate (acrylic). How? Using heat. You'll definitely want to invest in a heat press if you don't already own one. Personally I collect machines like I collect acrylic 😆
Okay, so what else do you need? Sublimation prints- you can purchase a printer and make your own, or, and I would recommend this route- start by purchasing prints from someone on Etsy or another maker so you can test it out first and find out if its for you!
And then of course you'll need acrylic. But what kind of acrylic? The AWESOME thing about acrylic is that most any cast acrylic is sublimation friendly. There are no special coatings, no lamination to apply, nothing to do besides buy the acrylic you already purchase. And while most cast acrylic will sublimate, the results will vary based on the acrylic color. I would stay away from darker colors and stick with light & bright for the best results!
The two biggest things I want to note here is that clear acrylic will sublimate with a transparent image, and not all white acrylic is the same. There are varying degrees of opacity within the range of acrylic sheets sold as white. For best results we recommend our 3015 White. The more opaque, the less light comes through and the brighter your design will sublimate.
Alright so we have all of our supplies, what's next?! Turn your heat press on and set it to 375-400 degrees Fahrenheit. This is really where you're going to have to start getting comfortable and testing it out on your own. Trial and error is going to be your friend for finding the best settings for you- including pressure. I prefer high but have heard many have success with a lower pressure point. My recommendation is always to start small and work your way up!
While you're press is heating up, if you haven't already, I would suggest cutting your designs first. One of the biggest issues people have with sublimating on acrylic is warping when you remove it from the heat. Cutting your acrylic, and sublimating a smaller piece(s) usually lessens the possibilities of warping. Generally with sublimation, you'll want to use a heat safe tape to keep the paper design from sliding around. However, you'll have to be careful with your application so you don't wind up with tape marks on the back of your acrylic. One way to mitigate this is to apply the tape on the image, and then to a piece of paper under your acrylic (and not directly on the acrylic itself). The added benefit of a piece of paper under your acrylic is it offers an easy way to slide your pieces directly onto a harder surface for cooling down!
Generally you'll apply a teflon or parchment piece over the sublimation pieces, and press your image for 45-60 seconds (again, lots of trial and error for best timing).
Once the timer is up, immediately slide your pieces onto a hard surface, and apply something heavy on top of them. This is going to help it cool down nice and flat without warping.
After 15+ minutes you can remove the heavy pieces and take a peek at your product! Once you remove the tape and sublimation paper do me a favor and DON'T PANIC if there's a lot of residue- a baby wipe or damp cloth will scrub it right off!
One of the perks of sublimation over other mediums is that once the ink is in there, there is nothing that will remove it. It won't scratch, it won't be damaged by harsh chemicals, it won't rub off over time- it is SET. Of course the disadvantage is that this process is a bit arduous and time consuming, and the warping problem can be hard to scale on a level for higher manufacturing.
NOW- Go have fun! I've sublimated on pastels, mattes, marbles, pearls, and more! Experiment with what you have and you'll be able to create some truly unique pieces!
With LIMITLESS ACRYLIC, there are truly no limits to what YOU can create for your customers. However it can be a little overwhelming when you go to order stock patterns with all the choices, so we've put together this little guide for you!
What is a core color?
If you start with any of our patterns you'll follow the prompts to create your own limitless print! The core color is the color acrylic we print on. Most people choose white, black, or clear. Keep in mind the core color will change the stock image a touch- white will be the closest to the stock image. Clear is going to be close for a full color print, but we print on one side only so you can see through the front for a bit of depth. Black cores will mute the color a bit from what you see on the website.
If you'd like another core color, simply click the box that says "Upgrade your core color" under Customize It! Additional options will display after you select that box. The core colors can affect your print in one of two ways. If you choose a standard (full color-white background) print (where available), the core color will be the color your image will engrave. For example, many people are ordering our Christmas cake print with a green or dark green core, so they can engrave names in it in green. For prints that offer a scattered option, you can use a different core color to change the "color" of the pattern. The core color on a scattered print replaces the white on the image.
How can we print your pattern?
Transparent print. This is best for stained glass and abstract options- your acrylic will be transparent as will the pattern. There is usually minimal or no white printed (depending on the pattern), so you can expect it to be light.
Full color is our most popular option. In this option we print your pattern, a layer of white ink, and your pattern again. This way, the pattern is visible from both sides and has a brightness and saturation to it so the color is vibrant!
Scattered is another popular option, but we only print white where the pattern is. If you're looking at stock website photos, imagine all the white space being transparent/clear. This is NOT available on abstract prints.
This can be a fun option as well on different core colors- in this way you can change the background color of your pattern to whatever the core color is.
A few things to note when ordering other core colors:
Glitter & Metallics are NOT Viable options for engraving cores. When engraved they are a dull/matte finish and do not offer the POP of glitter or metallic. They are best for scattered options where you want to see the glitter or metallic as a background to the pattern.
Why does my acrylic size/thickness vary?
Thickness
Let's talk about cast acrylic and why it isn't always the same size or thickness. If you're new to acrylic, you may want to read up about the different ways acrylic sheets are manufactured HERE.
Cast acrylic, which is what the majority of acrylic sheets we carry are, is manufactured in molds. That means the parts that make the acrylic are poured into molds that are a set size and thickness. Because it is made in molds though, there is still some variance when the product sets. In fact, the industry standard is up to a 30% variance on thickness. This is a big reason why when you're using acrylic for projects that need to include stands and such, you need digital calipers to accurately gauge the thickness of every piece of acrylic you're cutting!
Length/Width
Because manufacturers vary, the actual mold length and width dimensions vary as well, especially when you are getting into specialty and decorative acrylic sheets. Standard mold sizes are 24" X 48", 48" X 72", and 48" X 96". Then you have to take into consideration the saw kerf and material that is cut off when your sheets are cut down.
We sometimes have questions about why some acrylic sheets are shorter than others, and this is why! We've standardized our options to an 18" width on our Glowforge sized acrylic sheets, so that is always a guarantee. More often than not though, you'll get closer to 19" or so on your acrylic sized sheets. We'd rather you expect less and get more than vice versa! But if you get a stack of acrylic and one sheet happens to be shorter than the rest, it is just a true 18 sheet!
